Removable braces
A brace that can be taken out and that, in growing children, guides how the jaws develop and where the teeth sit. Started in time, it often prevents or shortens later treatment with fixed braces.

What can removable braces do?
Removable braces work while the child grows. They can widen a narrow upper jaw, make room for permanent teeth that are still coming through, correct a crossbite, move individual teeth and help break bad habits such as tongue thrusting.
To bring every tooth into its exact position later, fixed braces are sometimes still needed — but for a shorter, simpler treatment, because the foundations were laid in time.
How many hours a day?
As many as the orthodontist prescribes — usually the whole night and as much as possible during the day. The brace comes out for eating, brushing and sport. A brace that sits in its box does nothing: how quickly and how well the treatment works depends on the child's cooperation.
Looking after removable braces
- Brush the brace every day with a soft brush and cold water (not hot — it can warp)
- When it is out of the mouth, always keep it in its box — most braces get lost wrapped in a napkin
- Don't leave it in the sun or near a radiator
- Keep it away from pets — dogs love them
- Bring it to every check-up
Tips for parents
For the first few days speech can sound a little different and the child may produce more saliva — this passes quickly. Praise your child for wearing the brace regularly and agree on a fixed place for the box. If the brace rubs or has cracked, send us a message.
Questions
Removable braces — common questions
What is the difference between removable and fixed braces?
Removable braces can be taken out and are used mainly for growing children, to guide how the jaws grow. Fixed braces are bonded to the teeth, move each tooth precisely and are used for teenagers and adults.
What if my child loses or breaks the brace?
Get in touch as soon as possible. We make a new one from the impression or repair the old one. It is important not to take long breaks, because the teeth can move back.
Can my child go to school and training with the brace?
Yes. During sport the brace is taken out and kept in its box. Speech adapts quickly, usually within a few days.
